I conduct a social experiment by telling the students they have rebelled against my authority in the classroom (I can't take credit for this idea; it's in the teaching notes for the novel). I give them a list of five things they have to accomplish before they can start functioning as a literature class: develop a motto or rallying song. Come up with a new name for the class. Write commandments (at least four) for this new classroom. Create a plan to maintain the purpose of this group as that of a literature class. Begin functioning as one.

We have a number of shared inquiry sessions where i ask them questions about the novel and paragraph their lives. Why didn't anyone stand up to napoleon, the tyrannical pig? How did Napoleon gain power so quickly? Have you ever defended your rights at home? Which situations are harder than others, and why? I have a writing packet that walks them through writing an analysis on the prompt: "Pick one leader or one follower and analyze how that character destroys freedom and equality on the farm." Here is one of my favorite conclusions from a 14-year-old student: "Benjamin. Animal Farm is essential to understanding that it is the followers, not the leaders, who hold the key to maintaining freedom and equality in any civilization." This prompt, for the students who take this novel and essay seriously, can change and/or empower our students. The final goal is the best, and sometimes the scariest, lesson I teach all year. Ironically, this great lesson has nothing to do with me, and everything elon to do with the students. It is also a lesson that I may be ordered to stop facilitating in my classroom because the results are solely empirical and cannot be quantified on a data chart.
The novel works well in either a history class or a literature class, which makes teaching the novel multifaceted. Every year, i get rebellious while teaching. Animal Farm ; I can't help. I see the similarities between the corruption of power and our present educational system, and I feel the intense desire to shout "Rebellion!" from the roof tops. The propaganda the government feeds our citizens is so widely accepted that a small voice like mine will barely make a dent in the system. Yet, it is my voice that will continue to cry out for change; it is my voice that begs parents to fight for their children's right to a proper education, not a test driven one; and it is my voice that teaches students to never. I have three goals when teaching the novel: Help students see how they participate in sabotaging their own freedom and equality in their everyday lives, as well as in government issues; teach them how to write a powerful analytical argument on the abuse of power;. How do i accomplish this?
George Orwell wrote a novel using animals, to tell people about the failure of the russian revolution. He used animals I think because, itd stand out more than using human figures. For example, if he just used human figures, then people would just think this is a novel to help people to study more about the russian revolution. But in the case that he used animals, people thought about the little freedom some animals get and they connected this to the russian revolution. So this is why i think george Orwell used animals instead of other figures. I love teaching Orwell's, animal Farm to my high-school freshmen. It is an incredible allegory that illustrates Karl Marx's well-meaning Communism, how it prompted the people to overthrow the autocracy of czar Nicholas ii, and ultimately how Joseph Stalin used those very principles against the people who thought they were fighting for their equality.
As generations went by, animals and humans were very close together. They all shared the same amount of work to do all the same things in life. You couldnt even tell the difference between man and pig. In my own opinion, i think george Orwell is trying to make a point to the readers about power. This is that power cannot buy you health, and money isnt always everything. The moral and the message that george Orwell tried to point out to us is not to be greedy, selfish, spoilt and to see things from others point of view. In the novel this was obviously napoleon and in the russian revolution this was Joseph Stalin. So this message gets the readers to think about the novel.

One other event, which shocked me, that took place invitations in the russian revolution is when Stalin seemed to behave more like czar, then a man trying to build the new society. Czar was the main reason why they started the russian revolution in the first place. So he seemed more like a hypocrite, he said one thing and done another. This is when he described Napoleon being more a human farmer than one of the animals trying to rebel against the human farmers. This is very similar to the russian revolution case. Conclusion: The main points of this whole novel are that animals didnt have any freedom. Old Major who is well respected in the farm, spoke up and gave the other animals a big speech, about how they should do something about the way they were treated and their lack of freedom. In the beginning, the humans and animals were enemies, but later in the last few chapters of the book, the animals realised that they were dying and they didnt have enough food among themselves. The animals and humans, right at the end of the book, later become friends.

This meant that all the animals across the whole world could work together and be much more powerful than their oppositions, the humans. Another event in which inspired me and which I think is important in the russian revolution is when the enemies now seemed to be friends. Much of the propaganda of the past 10 years was re-written. Stalin was now able to get away with this because he controlled soviet life.

Throughout history, education has always been important. The Greek philosopher, Epictetus, wrote in his novel, discourses, only the educated are free. being educated opens many doors and opportunities that can get a person very far in life. In Animal Farm by george Orwell, lack of education leads to manipulation through the changes to the commandments, the difference in work ethics of the pigs, and the excessive power of Napolean. First, Animal Farm demonstrates manipulation through the constant changes the superior animals made to the commandments. Whenever Napolean and the other pigs made changes to the commandments, they made the rest of the animals think it had been like that all along. The fourth Commandment said, no animal shall sleep in a bed, but later in the story, squealer added words to the commandment and made it say, no animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets (24, 67). Squealer used his persuasive powers thesis to convince the animals it had been this way so no questions would be asked. Another instance of the commandments being altered is when the pigs cut the seven Commandments into one phrase that said, all animals are equal/But some animals are more equal than others (134).
